Five simple rules for keeping an empty inbox - Download Squad
These rules are gospel, and if you want your life back you’re going to have to treat them like your life depended on them. Email organization is easy, the commitment to continue is the hard part.
These rules sound really good but whether or not I can actually follow them is another matter. Maybe I should follow the example of some of my collegues and turn my email client off when I need to get my head down and work.

Simple read GTD on the web.
43folders.com is a good place to start.
I regularly worked with over 300 emails a day, sometimes peaking at 1000! Most of my colleagues has in boxes that overflowed.
Using GTD I have only a few folders, a handful of categories and an empty in box every evening.
One simple rule came up in work life. End of Day, an e-mails in my in box? No - In Control. Yes - Loosing Control.
It sounds impossible, but I found it took only a week to get things under control. The best thing about GTD is that it doesn’t rule your life, you adapt it to meet your needs.
Well worth the time it takes to make it work.
