One of its more unusual characteristics was that the control column was not a fixed fitting in the usual way, but could be unplugged from a socket at floor level, there being two sockets. It became a habit for only one column to be in use and when control was passed from the pilot to co-pilot or vice-versa for the control column to be unplugged and handed over.

Obviously the notion of redundancy had yet to occur to anyone….

These rules are gospel, and if you want your life back you’re going to have to treat them like your life depended on them. Email organization is easy, the commitment to continue is the hard part.

These rules sound really good but whether or not I can actually follow them is another matter. Maybe I should follow the example of some of my collegues and turn my email client off when I need to get my head down and work.

As you can see, becoming a Thunderbird power user is not that difficult. All you need are a couple extensions and a day or two to master Thunderbird’s advanced features. Once you’ve done that, you can deservedly call yourself an e-mail guru.

It may look a lot like Outlook Express but don’t be deceived, there’s far more to Thunderbird than simple emailing tasks. This is a good intro to filtering emails to save time, and extensions for adding extra features.

BBC NEWS | Technology | User paid to uninstall Windows XP

A Sheffield man has won a refund from Dell for not installing Microsoft’s Windows XP on a laptop he bought from the PC giant.

I’ve occasionally clicked on No in License agreements just to see what happens (the answer unsurprisingly is not a lot) but I’ve never really entertained the idea of getting money for it. This is a chance for consumerism to work in the consumers favour; if enough people do this there might be the possibility that computers will be offered without Windows.
