Office Software
Microsoft Office 2003: Well no surprise there
Microsoft Office 2007 Beta: I’ve been running this at home for some time now and have mixed feelings. I really like the ribbon for the most part and the dynamic word count is fantastic for those of us who work to word counts. On the other hand, the ribbon takes up too much space if you’re working at 1024 x 768.
OpenOffice: I use this with most of the Linux distros I install but it has some rather useful extras that Microsoft Office doesn’t that I take advantage of. The first is the save as
Code editing
SourceEdit: A nice little app with a wide range of features including a file explorer and colour coding. I’ve found it to be unstable at times with frequent crashes.
Notepad2: A real gem this, tiny and very capable with cplour coding for a variety of different languages.
Planning
MindManager6:
FTP
Filezilla: A great FTP client, the sitemanager is brilliant for anyone who needs regular access to several FTP sites.
Image Editing
The Gimp: Open source and capable, if a little less friendly than some other image editors.
Adobe Photoshop Elements: This has been very helpful for keeping my digital photo collection in order. The AutoSmartfix consistently improves my photos for printing and there are some interesting projects. Tagging is useful but most of the time I just search by date.
